Repeatedly, it takes texts in which the Hebrew Bible speaks of YHWH (יְהוָה), the one God of Israel, and applies them directly to Jesus. Written by Jewish monotheists who recited the Shema daily (Deuteronomy 6:4), these applications place Jesus inside the identity of the one God, not beside Him as a second god.

The method here is simple and checkable:

Read the Old Testament text and confirm, from the Hebrew, that the subject is YHWH or Elohim.

Read the New Testament text and confirm that its subject is Jesus.

Ask whether the author could have meant anything less than identity of the divine person acted upon, seen, called on, or worshipped.

Christian doctrine does not claim that Jesus is the Father. It claims that the one God exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that the Son took on full human nature from the Virgin Mary. So, texts where Jesus prays, is sent, or speaks of “my God” describe His real humanity and His personal distinction from the Father. Paul then grounds this in a verse that, in Hebrew, names YHWH. He does not borrow a vague honorific; he transfers the saving name itself.

This is not isolated. In Philippians 2:10-11, every knee bow and every tongue confesses that “Jesus Christ is Lord,” quoting Isaiah 45:23, where YHWH swears, “to me every knee shall bow”; in a chapter that insists “there is no other god besides me” (45:21). And the earliest believers are simply defined as “those who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 1:2).

4. The Son is God on the eternal throne and YHWH the Creator

Hebrews 1 introduces two quotations with one formula: “But of the Son he says” (1:8).

Psalm 45:6-7 → Hebrews 1:8-9: “Your throne, O God (אֱלֹהִים), is forever and ever … therefore God, your God, has anointed you.” The Son is addressed as God, given an eternal throne, and still distinguished from the God who anoints Him. That is exactly the Christian claim: one divine nature, distinct persons, and a Son who, as Messiah, is anointed.

Psalm 102:25-27 → Hebrews 1:10-12: “You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth … the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain … you are the same.” In the Psalm, this is addressed to YHWH (102:1, 12). Hebrews says it is spoken, “of the Son.”

The Creator claim recurs across the New Testament:

YHWH says, “I am YHWH, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself” (Isaiah 44:24).

Yet “all things were made through him [the Word], and without him was not anything made that was made” (John 1:3).

“By him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible … all things were created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:16-17).

If YHWH created alone, and all things were created through and for the Son, then the Son is not a creature standing outside YHWH; He is included in the one Creator.
